Tigers Jaw - Hesitation

| Keith

“Hesitation” is the first track I heard of Tigers Jaw’s latest, I Won’t Care How You Remember Me, and it was an instant add to my 2021 songs list, and a vision of what the rest of the album would hold. What’s what? Well, it’s some really good rock that falls somewhere between classic rock and mid-2000’s emo. In the best way.

They sound a bit more confident and polished here then previous releases, but haven’t lost any of the comforting, “listen to this on a Sunday afternoon” feel that makes them what they are. The album is good front to back, but a has a few standouts, including “Hestiation”; “Can’t Wait Forever” and “New Detroit.”

Miya Folick - Cost Your Love

| Keith

I had the great fortune to see Miya Folick in a very small, intimate venue during SXSW (the indoor stage at Cheer Up Charlie’s) and was blown away by her presence, voice and performance. Now, to be completely transparent, her album Premonitions had been on very heavy rotation for me and I see it as one of the top highlights of 2018, so I had high expectations. Which were easily exceeded. If you’ve not heard her, well now’s your chance.

Mansionair - Astronaut

| Kerri

I've been enjoying this mellow grooving song for a couple months now but, ya know, slacking at representing here on the blog. Anyway, the word "Love" in the chorus/subtitle is the only nod you're getting to V-day cuz it's a corporate, made-up for capitalism and sappy suckers, fake holiday. Oh man, just realized the entire word "fake" is ruined these days. But anyway, go about your business today, or love on the one(s) you love - hopefully we all do that at every opportunity anyway. So, Mansionair is a trio out of Sydney (continuations of our Australian music fandom) - and they gained a huge boost in notoriety a few years ago when Chvrches picked them to open up for them on a world-wide tour (heads' up for tomorrow's TMIS), followed by Alt-J doing the same.
