Dinosaur Pile-Up - Peninsula

| Keith
Be what you want
Say what you feel
Do what you please
Take what you got
Do it whatever
Leave it behind
Do it for real
Keep it in mind
Make it a deal
Do it forever
Want you to know
I don't care what you say
Want you to know
That I'll get there someday

This doesn't seem to be a political song, and it might not be intended to be, but I'm going there. Politics have been on my mind lately. and while this isn't the place to get into it, I wanted to, I don't know, nudge my world view into the spotlight for a minute. The lyrics of this song are, as they often are, very subject to interpretation, but I generally like the "you can do it yourself, whatever you want" vibe going on here. 2008, FTW!

Fitz and the Tantrums - Roll Up

| Kerri
Sugar just step into your sneakers
And step behind the speakers
Your heart will keep me beating
And make me a believer
Don't you want me?
Don't you want me?
I need some mercy in my soul right now

Just about the time this post goes live, Keith and I will be dancing in the crowd at Stubb's, watching Fitz and the Tantrums perform. It's been sold out for a while or I'd have put one of their songs on the blog sooner to alert any fellow Austinites (sorry). Anyway, this band has a ton of good songs, pretty much all high-energy, so we're looking forward to a really fun show... except it's going to be insanely hot.

Against Me! - 333

| Keith
Feeling like I need to fall down some stairs
Maybe lay face down in the river and float
Perfect weather for a head wound
Or studying sophisticated nuances of putting holes in your lungs
150 million years, war and the bomb
All reasons to be fearful but every noon, wake up
333, say that they knew me
333, bring it all back to me
All the devils that you don't know
Can all come along for the ride
I wanna be as close as I can get to you
All the devils that you don't know
Can all come along for the ride
I wanna be as close as I can get to you

I’m an Against Me! fan. Love the sound, love the lyrics, love the story. So when I first heard “333”, I listened to it all the way through and immediately went back for another listen. And another. And another.

It’s super cool to listen to a good band get better, and this is one of those situations. Laura Jane Grace is talented and terrific. If you don’t know her story, Google it, it’s interesting and awesome. Anyway, blah, blah, blah, yakity schmakity “333” is a special song.

Or, maybe, It’s so right up my alley I just fucking love it.
